What’s Your Function? (Part 1)

Today I read a devotional on my #YouVersion Bible App that asked this question: Do you wonder how you can stay where God has called you when you aren’t sure the work you’ve been given is good enough?

The Bible verse the author referenced was: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.”

After reading that I began to think of us believers and how we all make up the body of Christ. Each member with a different function. Then the thought came into my head of,  ‘what part of the body of Christ am I?’ And immediately I got the image of an eyelash. (I laugh as I tell you this!)…Seriously, this is what came to my mind. “I’m an eyelash? Lord, why an eyelash?” I don’t even like my eyelashes.  They’re short and straight and if one falls out I just brush it off. Of course, I wouldn’t want to lose them all either. We’d look kind of strange without eyelashes, huh? And, they really do serve a purpose. So, I kind of left it at that, just pondering why He brought that to my mind. Then I went on to the next verse she referenced:

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)”

Zechariah 4:10 NLT

WOW! Do you see how God speaks? Now I have such a clear image of what He’s saying to my heart…I’m like an eyelash…His eyelash! I’m useful and necessary for His eye.  I’m there along with many others but He thinks I’m important to His eye; one little eyelash but I’m known to Him! 😉

What’s your function?

    1. One person said, “well, doctors are involved in yoga exercise.” But, “yoga is yoga,” and exercise is exercise! We can’t mask something, and pretend that it is something else.

      1. Agreed! (I think these comments were meant for your article I read on Yoga but I’m glad you have read my posts so I will comment here as well…)

Yoga is a spiritual practice no matter how you package it. The positions and mantra’s are specific and serve a purpose. What’s interesting is that many people don’t even know what they are practicing when they get involved…just like thinking a Ouija board is just a game. People just don’t even realize that they are opening themselves up to the demonic…I know I didn’t, but I didn’t stick with it anyway. However, learning that what I did was wrong in God’s eyes, I have since repented. Thank God for the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from ALL unrighteousness!

I found this explanation from a guy who commented on an online article and I think it might be helpful also…

(***Traditional application of yoga is the religious preparation of the “being” in current person form, to exit the current life, returning to the universe, and seeking return, one step closer to paradise. Traditional yogis are bewildered why Westerners seek “physical” benefits when it is pure a “spiritual” process to “die and reincarnate.” If you’re seeking an eastern spiritual passage of live, Yoga may be able to help. If you seek health and fitness, go outside and play.***)

        LOL! I liked that!

      2. Thank you. All of your reply is very good. As a 12 year old, my mother and I were asked to play Ouija. It seemed harmless but I can remember some very significance things that took place. On the board, the moving thing that two people hold onto, moved by itself, at will. Questions were asked to the Ouija board. The device that moved began moving to letters on the board and spelled out the names of people and places of our supposed future, but; all of which never came to fruition. Later, at about age 18, I was at a youth party at our pastor’s parsonage. The lights of the house were dimmed. We all sat down on a hallway floor. Then, somebody said, “President Kennedy (do something)” at that time, the attic fan came on and scared us out of our wits!!!.. That pastor was not at home then, but he began to get involved in hypnosis. He did it to me; it was a bit unnerving. I have not had such a thing since then. btw, that Pastor was fired

      3. My cousin and I played with the Ouija board when we were only in Junior High and it scared us both! I don’t remember everything that happened but the spirit we were communicating with became angry I think…the little device you use to move around the board started moving very quickly…up and down, back and forth…we weren’t moving it and it scared both of us so much we never used it again. We were so afraid we hid it in the back of her mom’s closet. We were too afraid to tell anyone we even played with it. Too afraid to throw it away too! Strange how kids think though, out of sight, out of mind ??? It was still in the house though! We hid it in the back of the closet and tried not to think about it.

      4. My email comment? Sometimes I don’t really know what I’m doing…lol! I’m not at all familiar with G+…I have a hard enough time keeping up with this, facebook and twitter. Not really very good at any of them but I only have a couple of people who comment on my blog posts so I try to respond. =)

      5. You do very well. G+ has much more conflict going on, and more nudity and vulgarity than what we have in WP. I just use it as another outlet for my posts. With 7 million followers, I am blessed.

      6. Thank you. And, Why would a very smart person move from the very warm desert southwest to the frigid cold of the midwest? Oops!!! I did it. AZ to MO lol !

      7. Well…God moved me, so we’d have to ask Him. And believe me, I have been but He hasn’t really made it clear to me just yet. Only to say, He brought me back here (I’m from IL) and until I’m actually ready to be obedient and “officially” move here (change my address and driver’s license) He probably won’t tell me. LOL! I got that after a 3 day fast asking Him WHY??? So…I’m working on it.

    1. Unfortunately, they are. About my story…we were trying to get in touch with Elvis…the things kids do…in ignorance. For years I was “haunted” by that experience. I tried to ignore it but it was always in the back of my mind. If you give the enemy an open door he will come in…he looks for opportunities to deceive us and we often invite him in to do just that! There are so many people who just don’t have a single clue about the spiritual realm or the spiritual battle we are in.

      1. That is a very good perspective. I had a later pastor who was very protective toward such satanic things. He pointed out that by getting your mind into such things, we can allow entry to Satan into our minds, which is our soul (not spirit).

      1. I would imagine that it is past your bedtime. When you are able to do so, can you please tell me something about your Christian background. Thank you?

  1. I will have to say that if I had not moved to StL that we would not be chatting tonight. Before I moved there, I knew nothing about Israel and the end times. My pastor in stL knew “everything” about Israel and the end times: I repeat this story, over and over. I was also very much a legalist. That pastor is with the Lord now, as is his mentor. I would not have any understanding of the things that are so very important to me. I have been able to share things of those topics to many people around the world. I will have to say that “God is very good.”
